New Blog Assignment: A Letter to a Special Friend 💌
Hello everyone,
We've had some great discussions about what friendship means to us and the qualities we value in our friends. Now, it's time to put those thoughts and feelings into words!
Your New Writing Assignment:
For this assignment, you will write a blog post in the form of a letter to a special friend. This can be a real friend or an imaginary one. The purpose of this letter is to tell your friend why their friendship is important to you and to share one positive shared memory that highlights your bond.
What to Include in Your Letter (and Blog Post):
As you plan your letter, think about these points:
- Who is your letter addressed to? Start with a clear greeting.
- Why is their friendship special to you? Think about one or two key reasons. (e.g., Are they always there for you? Do they make you laugh? Do you share common interests?)
- What is one specific positive memory you share? Describe this memory briefly – what happened, where were you, and why is it special to your friendship?
- How does this friendship make you feel? (e.g., happy, supported, understood).
- What would you like to express to your friend in closing? (e.g., a wish, a thank you).
Letter Format within Your Blog Post:
Remember to structure your blog post like a letter:
- Greeting: e.g., Dear [Friend's Name], or Hi [Friend's Name],
- Body Paragraph 1: Explain why you are writing and why their friendship is important.
- Body Paragraph 2: Share your special memory.
- Body Paragraph 3 (Optional): Express further feelings or wishes.
- Closing: e.g., Your friend, / Best wishes, / Warmly, / See you soon,
- Your Name: (as the sender of the letter)
Blog Post Specifics:
- Title for your Blog Post: Give your blog post a title, for example, "A Letter to My Amazing Friend, [Friend's Name]" or "Thinking of You, [Friend's Name]".
- Length: Aim for approximately 120-180 words.
- Tone: Keep the tone friendly, warm, and sincere.
- Optional Image: You can include a simple, appropriate image that symbolizes friendship (please use royalty-free images or your own simple drawings).
- Tags: Use tags like
friendship,letter,myfriend,[Your Name/Class].
Important Note on Privacy: If you are writing to a real friend, remember that this is a blog post. Even if our blog is private to the class, think about what you are comfortable sharing. You can always change your friend's name if you prefer.
The Writing Process:
- Plan: Think about your friend and the memory you want to share. Jot down some key words and phrases.
- Draft: Write the first version of your letter. Let your feelings flow!
- Revise & Edit: Read your letter carefully.
- Does it sound natural and friendly?
- Is your message clear?
- Check for any grammar or spelling mistakes. (Our "Learning Resources" page can help!)
Where to Publish:
Please publish your letter as a new post on your individual student blog.
